The northern part of Tibet, known as Amdo, is a separate Chinese province named Qinghai. Greener than its high-altitude neighbor, it displays a variety of landscapes and is the home to the largest Tibetan Buddhism monasteries.

To the West, lies China's last frontier, Xinjiang. A fascinating land, in the middle of the Silk Road, at the foot of the Earth's second highest mountains - where people write in Arabic, Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
