Once upon a time, four French boys spent one month on Bolivia’s dusty roads and mighty volcanoes. Two of them climbed Nevado Sajama, Bolivia’s highest mountain, got somehow lost on the way back, and had to spend an unexpected second night at 6000 meters, with no food and water, before hitch-hiking to La Paz on top of a 4x4 loaded with sheep. I was one of those guys, and will remember this experience all my life.

These images were shot at the end of the 20th century, with a plastic Nikon FM10 and three professional Nikon lenses, on Fujichrome Velvia. Nearly 20 years after, with proper scanning and processing, they retain all the light and magic of these epic times.
