The quest for minerals has always fascinated humans. The glitter of a lead ore in a quartz vein, a trace of gold in river sands, an intriguing crystal on a rock... After thousands of years, despite the progress of science, minerals retain a share of magic and mystery.
For years, it has been my quest as well. Thanks to my grandfather driving me around in France and Germany, I was able to discover old mines, their stories, and their environment. Often in remote areas, unknown to tourism, they were great opportunities to spend time off the beaten track and interact with locals.
Back home, a microscope and a notebook were my companions. Decades after, the whole collection remains thoroughly numbered and boxed.
